Woodblock Musuem - Idea of Carving

The woodblock carved and un-carved suggest an idea of light and dark spaces architecturally. Carving are done in multiply linear cuts that create layers of uneven surfaces. Individual layer can suggest as a corridor spaces, suggesting that the users are able to walk down the corridor to see the wood block or art work displayed at end of the corridor.

In the site analysis of Jalan Besar, the corner shop houses are very well articulated and highly ornamented as the corner has more room for ornamentation to be display. Addressing this corner site to be highly ornamented in Jalan Besar to complete the urban corner. . With the design of the facade is to create the idea of uneven cuts of the woodblock and also still allowing certain amount of lights to still filter into the building located at the end of the corridor of the display art work.

With a single strategy, the staggering massing of corridors suggest the uneven cuts of the wood block. Moreover, retaining all 5 existing trees of the site and turning the back alley into a "green alley" space. Beautifying the space as a drop-off point of visitors to the building.
